From GIF to JPG in your browser
Drop a .gif, choose a quality, and download a .jpg. Your browser reads the GIF, takes its first frame, fills any transparent areas with white, and encodes a JPEG. All of it happens on your device, so nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored.
When this is the conversion you want
- A form accepts JPG only. Photo uploads for IDs, applications and marketplace listings frequently list .jpg as the one allowed format.
- You need a still from an animation. The first frame becomes an ordinary photo file.
- Something old has to display it. JPEG is the most widely supported image format there is.
- A message or an email keeps failing. JPEG at Medium is small, and old software never argues with it.
The two changes you will notice
Transparent areas turn white. JPEG cannot store transparency, so the converter puts the picture on a white background first. A cut-out logo comes out inside a white box. When that matters, convert to PNG instead.
Edges get softer. GIF was built for flat color and hard lines, and JPEG was built for photographs. Compressing sharp text or a crisp outline with JPEG leaves faint halos around it, which is exactly what the High setting exists to limit. For a graphic with big blocks of flat color, PNG remains the better destination.

Which quality should I use?
High whenever the image contains text or line art. Medium for a form upload or an email attachment. Small file only when a strict size limit forces it.
Why did my transparent background turn white?
JPEG has no transparency at all, so every transparent pixel needs a color. White is the safe default because most forms and documents sit on white.
Will the JPG be smaller than the GIF?
For a long animation, much smaller, since you are keeping one frame out of many. For a single-frame GIF, the two land close together, and the exact numbers appear next to each download.
