How this PDF to JPG converter works
Drop a PDF and every page renders as a thumbnail you can click. Pick the pages you want, choose how big the pictures should be, and press convert. Each page comes back as its own JPG named after the document: report-page-1.jpg, report-page-2.jpg, and so on. Pick nothing and you get the whole document, one file per page, with a zip button that collects them.
Your browser does the drawing with pdf.js, the rendering engine behind Firefox's PDF viewer. Nothing uploads, so a payslip or a signed lease stays on your computer.
Choosing a size
The three presets decide how many pixels each page gets. An A4 page comes out at:
- Screen, 793 pixels wide. Right for posting, emailing, or dropping into a slide.
- Print, 1240 pixels wide, and the default. The safe pick when the image ends up on paper.
- Poster, 2479 pixels wide, enough to crop into a chart or a signature without it turning to mush. Files get big here.
A landscape sheet or an A3 drawing scales up from those numbers, because the pixel count follows the page's real size in the document.
What you give up in the conversion
A JPG is a picture of a page. The words in it are pixels, so you cannot select them, search them, or copy a paragraph out. Whoever you send them to gets the same deal, so send the PDF itself when the text needs to stay searchable.
JPG carries no transparency, so anything see-through in the PDF lands on white. A picture also has nothing to click or type into, so links stop working and form fields stop accepting input, even when they still look like fields.
What it will not do
- One document at a time. Drop a second PDF and it replaces the first.
- Password-protected files will not open. Strip the password in the app that made the document, then come back.
- No OCR. The tool draws pages rather than reading them, so scanned text stays a picture of text.
- A 200-page book at the Poster size can run the tab out of memory. Export it in batches.
Frequently asked questions
Does my document get uploaded?
No. Your PDF is read and drawn inside this tab, and it never travels to a server. The tool still fetches its own code from us as you use it, so this is privacy rather than a promise that the page runs with the network off.
Why does my JPG look soft?
Move up a size. Screen looks fine on a display and too coarse on paper.
Can I get one long image of the whole PDF?
No. Every page becomes its own file.
The pages came out sideways. What happened?
The export follows the rotation stored in the PDF, so a page marked landscape comes out landscape. If it still looks wrong, the scan itself went in sideways. Rotate it in the PDF and convert again.
